Published November 10, 2006

LAHORE, Nov 9: The Annemarie Schimmel Scholarship Association has selected the Schimmel scholar for 2006 who will be undertaking postgraduate studies in the UK next year, says a press release.

The scholarship was founded in 1988 by Mrs Zoe Hersov, an eminent scholar herself, in the name of her friend Dr Annemarie Schimmel.

The aim of the scholarship is to encourage deserving Pakistani women to achieve academic excellence and then return to serve their country and become role models for the other women.

The scholarship has so far sent 16 women in fields as varied as Islamic art, laser physics, bio-medical engineering and social policy among others, for postgraduate studies to prestigious institutions in the UK.

It is advertized nationally in March/April and the selection is carried out at the end of each year. More information regarding the scholarship can be obtained from its website:
