Pact signed on conserving Juniper forests


QUETTA, Nov 4: The Balochistan government has signed an agreement with the United Nations Development Programme to conserve the Juniper forests in Ziarat. The agreement was signed at a ceremony held here on Friday. Additional Chief Secretary Qayyum Nazar Changezi represented the Balochistan government and Haoliang Xu, UNDP’s Country Director, represented his organisation.

According to a press release of the International Union for Conservation of Nature, the project will be executed in the Ziarat district through the IUCN.

Objectives of the project include setting up an organisational structure in villages in selected areas, addressing social needs and assessment of selected valleys, including gender assessment.

Introducing watershed management is also included in the project.—APP
