KARACHI: SHCBA slams Bajaur killings

KARACHI, Nov 1: The Sindh High Court Bar Association strongly condemned on Wednesday the ‘cold-blooded’ killing of innocent civilians in an armed forces attack on a madressah in Bajaur Agency and demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident by the Supreme Court.

A resolution, passed by an emergency meeting of the SHCBA executive under the chairmanship of M Ilyas Khan, the association’s president, criticized the statement of President Pervez Musharraf that those killed in the unprovoked strike were ‘terrorists’.

The statement ‘ex facie’ added insult to injury. It said every individual is presumed to be innocent under the law till proven guilty by due judicial process.

The resolution said if any illegal activity was being carried out at the madressah, there was nothing to prevent the police, the rangers or the levies to arrest ‘the so-called terrorists’ or seize illegal weapons from their possession. The ‘barbaric’ strike cannot be justified under any circumstance, it added.

The association said a thorough probe should be held by the Supreme Court to ascertain the responsibility for the unwarranted attack. Any recurrence of such attacks would be ‘disastrous’ for the nation and would endanger the solidarity of the federation, it warned.

RALLY: Student Alliance of Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology on Wednesday took out a protest rally against the alleged US bombardment in Bajour Agency, adds PPI.

A large number of students and activists belonging to various students' organization, attended the rally. Carrying banners and placards, protesters chanted slogans against the government and US aggression.

Marching from different departments, the protestors gathered at the main gate of the university where they burnt a US flag.

Addressing the demonstration, speakers condemned the US attack on maddarsah and termed it an attack on Islam and Pakistan.
