30 students get gold medals

PESHAWAR, Oct 30: Thirty students received gold medals and cash prizes, eight got PhD and 530 masters degrees in different disciplines at the University of Peshawar’s convocation here on Monday.

NWFP Governor Ali Mohammad Jan Aurakzai gave away medals and degrees to the successful students.

Those who received PhD degrees are: Shaheen Nigaar and Ghazala Yasmin in economics, Noorul Amin in chemistry, Kaneez Fatima in psychology, Iram Irshad in psychology, Robina Shaheen in Urdu, Ahmed Ali in Pushto and Aqal Zaman in botany.

Those who received gold medals and cash prizes are: Zafar Hayat from archaeology department; Mohammad Umer Khan, philosophy; Khalilur Rehman and Ayesha, archaeology; Farhana Jamil and Kiran, botany; Sadia Aslam, environmental sciences; Javed, chemistry; Azra, Farah Dawood and Umer Afridi, geology; Amin Khan and Mohammad Ali Khan, Pushto; Shiekh Muazzam and Bahar Ali, commerce; Khalid Khan, electronics; Sameera Sahar, statistics; Sadaf and Aqeela Naaz, psychology; Zaeem Nida, Samiullah, Gulrukh Mehboob and Iffat Jabeen, economics; Khusheed, international relations; Bibi Fatima, political science; Ahmed Nawaz, social work; Sabahat Sikander, LLB; Syed Adnan Shah, library sciences; Atif Ali, history; Hina Arshad, sociology; and Zarina Rehan from Persian department.

The governor said students should not take part in politics and they should reserve their energy for education.

He warned those living illegally in the university hotels to vacate the rooms so that deserving students could get accommodation.

He stressed the need to encourage the students in the field of research.
