Failed attacks: more rockets recovered

By Our Staff Reporter

RAWALPINDI, Oct 27: The joint investigation team probing failed rocket attacks near the Army House and other government offices recovered more rockets and sophisticated weapons from a dry well in Saddar Bairooni area on Thursday.

Sources said the recovery was made on information gleaned during the interrogation of the three suspects who included the son of a retired brigadier.

Meanwhile, an anti-terrorist court (ATC) on Friday remanded the three suspects in police custody for seven days.

The suspects — Khalil Wyne (mastermind), Ali Ahmed Gondle and Munir Akhtar — were arrested last Monday on information provided by the eight alleged militants detained earlier after the three foiled bids of rocket attacks.

The three persons would be produced in the court of ATC judge Safdar Hussain Malik on November 2 on the completion of seven-day remand. Earlier, a judicial magistrate remanded them in police custody for three days.

A source revealed that there were 12 more people in custody, who were being interrogated by the joint investigation team comprising police and the officials of intelligence agencies.

A rocket exploded on October 4 in a Rawalpindi park near the Army House, while two more were found close to the Parliament House the next day, followed by another two rockets lying near Zero Point two days later.
