By Our Correspondent

SAHIWAL, Oct 24: Two minor nomad girls burnt alive while their mother sustained injuries when their cottage caught fire in Akbar village here on Monday night.

Rafiq and his wife had gone to work at the adjoining farm. Safia, 2, lit a matchstick which caused the fire. Safia and her sister Sakeena, 5, were burnt alive while their mother Rajan Bibi suffered burns in an attempt to save them. She was admitted to the Gogera hospital.

ROBBERIES: Three incidents of robberies were reported here on Monday night.

Three motorcyclists deprived a couple of Rs8,500 in cash, credit cards and gold jewellery worth Rs95,000 in the city.

Rashid Ata, who has been serving at Karachi, told police that he had come to celebrate Eid with his family. He went to see his in-laws with wife and children by his car when the incident took place.

In Shadab town, trader Muhammad Afzal was shot at by unidentified robbers when he put resistance.

He was rushed to hospital in serious condition.

Four armed men took away a Peter engine and a buffalo worth Rs50,000 from the dera of Muhammad Afzal Shah in Ahmed Shah village.

BANNERS REMOVED: District PML-N vice-president Malak Arshad alleged that the administration had removed the banners he put on display to greet the people on Eidul Fitr.

Mr Arshad criticised the administration and the government for negative tactics.

Tehsil nazim Chaudhry Omar Ishaq, when contacted, said the civic body had leased out the advertisement hoardings to a contractor.

The PML-N leader did not pay the fee for exhibiting the banners to the contractor, hence their removal was ordered.

On the other hand, Punjab Ulema Mashaikh wing president Pir Syed Imran Wali Shah had paid the rent and his banners were still intact.
