Dacoit flees; SI, constable held

GUJRANWALA, Oct 24: A dacoit who was brought by civil lines police some two weeks ago from jail for investigation, managed his escape on Tuesday while the DPO got arrested a SI and constable.

Reports said Aroop town police had arrested Talib Husain of Muafiwala village following his involvement in robberies about a month ago.

Later, he was sent to district jail on judicial remand. Some two weeks back, he was nominated in another dacoity case. On orders of the court, the civil lines police had brought him from the jail for investigation.

On completion of the investigation, Talib was being escorted by civil lines SI Syed Bilal Shah and constable Naeem Ahmad to the central jail. Near the main gate of the jail the accused managed his escape along with the handcuff.

Asif got arrested the police officials and registered a case against them under various offences.

The police are conducting raids for the arrest of Talib.

LIQUOR: Model town police claimed on Tuesday to have seized 1,500 bottles of liquor from a drug peddler and arrested him along with his accomplice after a brief encounter.

On a tip-off, DPO Mian Muhammad Asif directed the police to arrest the accused.

A party, led by SHO inspector Tahir Farooq Cheema, conducted a raid at the house of the accused and arrested them after a brief encounter.

The arrested have been identified as Zahid and Afzal.

The DPO appreciated the police performance and announced Rs2,000 cash and commendation certificate for the SHO.

Meanwhile, Saddar Gujranwala police claimed to have arrested an accused during a raid and recovered cell phones from his possession.

During investigation, Javed confessed that he had snatched mobile phones from Lahore, Gujranwala and Sheikhupura.
