GUJRANWALA, Oct 23: Seventy eight prisoners were released under order after commutation in their sentence while 179 others involved in criminal cases were granted bail on the occasion of Eidul Fitr on Monday.
Jail authorities prepared the list of prisoners and later released them. The families of the prisoners welcomed them outside jail and took to their houses.
Meanwhile, a number of people reached the jail here to meet their relatives and friends and gave them Eid gift. The members of non-governmental organisations and welfare associations also distributed gifts among prisoners.
PANIC: Defective siren at a bank branch spread panic while police surrounded the building on receiving information in Wazirabad on Monday.

Bank officials apprised this correspondent that the siren was being repaired.
ROBBERIES: Robbers went on the rampage on the occasion of Eidul Fitr and made off with cash and jewellery worth hundreds of thousands of rupees in several strikes here on Monday.
Four robbers drove away with the car of Asif Mahmood Khokhar near Bhri Morr on the GT Road.
Three motorcyclists intercepted Amjad Ali, Ali Muhammad and Karamat Ali of Noorpura and deprived them of Rs10,000 in cash, three cell phones, gold chain and ring, etc., at gunpoint when they were on their way home from bazaar.
Six robbers entered the house of landlord Muhammad Akram in Sahanki Ladheywala Warriach village, locked the family in a room, collected Rs160,000 in cash, 13 tolas of gold jewellery, wrist watches, two cell phones and licensed rifle and managed to escape.
They locked the house from outside before fleeing.
GANG BUSTED: The organised crime police claimed on Monday to have busted a gang of vehicle lifters and recovered vehicles and illicit arms from their possession.
The DPO directed police to trace the gang as incidents of car lifting recorded a surge recently.
A police team raided Trust Plaza on receiving secret information and arrested two people who were later identified as Nawaz of Daska and Ashraf of Sambrial while their third accomplice, Haji Fazal Khan of Peshawar, managed to escape. A police party went to Peshawar to arrest him.
Police recovered nine Suzuki Bolan and one Mehran from their possession. They said at least nine more vehicles would be recovered from Lahore and Peshawar on the information provided by the accused shortly.
Police claimed that the accused confessed that they sold stolen vehicles in Peshawar after tampering with its engine and chassis numbers.
LABOURER DIES: A labourer was killed when the roof of an under-construction house collapsed in Khiali Shahpur on Monday.
Izat Khan was busy when the roof caved in. He was buried alive under the rubble.
