Man, son killed in accident

LAHORE, Oct 22: A man and his son were killed while his wife suffered serious injuries when a speeding wagon ran over their motorcycle in Bhatti Gate area here on Sunday.

Police said Muhammad Mazhar Qureshi, 35, along with his wife Aneela and three-year-old child Moeed nicknamed Chand, were on way to Anarkali Bazaar by a motorbike (LOX-7975) for Eid shopping when a rashly-driven wagon (LXC-2372) knocked them down near the Data Darbar.

Moeed died on the spot while Mazhar succumbed to his injuries in the Mayo Hospital while Aneela was shifted to the Lahore General Hospital where her condition was stated to be critical.

The wagon driver, Haji Shaukat alias Axe, managed his escape from the scene while leaving the wagon on the spot. The police registered the case on the complaint of Mazhar’s brother.

Some passersby gathered at the spot soon after the incident, staged a protest and burnt the wagon as a result of which traffic blocked on the main road.

MURDER: Two persons were shot dead while two others injured when four armed men opened fire on them in Lower Mall area here on Sunday.

It was suspected that the robbers fired at Awais alias Bao, 40, the owner of Bao Nan shop, his employees Azam Bhola and Waqas on resistance. However, the police claimed that the murders were the result of an old enmity.

According to details, Awais, a resident of Bilal Ganj, was present at his shop along with his employees on Mohni Road when four gun-toting people turned up there and demanded cash.

The intruders opened fire on them on resistance as a result of which Awais died on the spot while Azam, Waqas and a passerby Rafee were injured.

Azam succumbed to his injuries in the Mayo Hospital while Waqas and Rafee’s condition was stated to be critical.
