KARACHI, Oct 19: The Khidmat-i-Khalq Foundation (KKF) of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement on Thursday distributed goods worth Rs40 million among 4,000 needy and poor people as per the instructions of the MQM chief, Altaf Hussain.

Speaking on the occasion via telephone from London, Mr Hussain said: “Politics is meaningless, rather nuisance, without practical service to the humanity.”

He said that service to the humanity should be visible as it was in the days when KKF volunteers rushed to the Oct 8, 2005 earthquake affected areas, even before the armed forces or any other organisation could do so.

He said the KKF had on record distributed goods worth Rs3.5 billion among quake victims.

“The parties which do not serve people despite coming to power, fail to bring about any reforms or change in society,” Mr Hussain remarked.

He said such parties would care only for their own benefit, but the MQM would always care for people. If it came to power, it would change the life and destiny of the 98 per cent poor people of the country, he pledged.

He said that MQM legislators reached far flung areas and served the people in the aftermath of the earthquake and dispelled the impression created against it through the negative propaganda by the hostile forces. In this context, he pointed out that people across the country donated generously in cash and kind to the KKF for the victims.

Others who spoke included Dr Farooq Sattar, Anwar Alam and Sheikh Liaquat Hussain.
