DERA GHAZI KHAN, Oct 16: Aggrieved father of a girl who died of hydrophobia last month has submitted an application to the district police officer, seeking registration of a case against the Dera tehsil nazim and tehsil municipal officer who did not initiate any dog killing campaign despite receiving complaints of dog bite cases.
Demanding a murder case against tehsil nazim Mehmood Qadir Leghari and tehsil municipal officer Zubair Wattoo, Muhammad Yasin held them responsible for the sad and painful demise of five years old Amina Bibi.
Information gleaned by Dawn over the issue reveals that there is an average of five dog bite cases being reported at the emergency ward of the DHQ Hospital daily but there was no vaccine available for treatment.
The TMO said an order had been placed to purchase poison to kill stray dogs. But sources inside the TMA disputed his claim and said that nothing had been done so far.
Neither previous administration nor the present tehsil administration have taken note of public complaints about the increase in dog bite cases.
District health officer Dr Sultan Aasim Bughlani told Dawn that the department had not allocated funds for the purchase of required vaccine.
The health department has its patrolling sanitary officers at basic health units and rural health centers who are supposed to kill stray dogs while the TMA has employees for the purpose who are doing other duties.
