GUJRANWALA, Oct 15: An alleged robber managed his escape from civil lines police station here on Sunday. Reports said ASI Nasir Ahmed shifted Muhammad Anwar from jail to police station for investigation on the permission of the court. He was brought out of the lockup when he managed to escape.

District police officer Mian Muhammad Asif reached the spot and got Nasir arrested for not taking security steps. A case has been registered against the ASI.

FIRE: A fire broke out at a show-making unit here on Saturday night in Lakerwala bazaar, reducing to ashes equipment and stock.

The cause of the fire was stated to be a short circuit.

Firefighters and people of the area reached the spot and extinguished the blaze after an hour. The loss was estimated at Rs500,000.

BISE: The board of intermediate and secondary education (BISE) on Sunday issued roll number slips to candidates who submitted admission forms for appearing in intermediate supplementary examination, 2006.

The examination is scheduled to begin from Oct 31. Candidates have been asked to contact the assistant controller examination (intermediate branch) during office hours in case of non-receipt of slips by Oct 20.

This was stated by controller examination Dr Mumtaz Ahmad Awan in a press release issued here on Sunday.

WOMEN POLICE: Women police started patrolling in People’s Colony here on Sunday.

Reports said DPO Mian Muhammad Asif organised women police force and deployed at the colony to create awareness among housewives about protective measures to avert robberies.
