KARACHI: Tributes paid to Mushtaq Memon

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Oct 14: Speakers at a meeting on Saturday paid rich tributes to their former colleague and a senior journalist, late Mushtaq Memon, at a function organized in connection with his first death anniversary at the Press Club.

Mushtaq’s younger brother Sen Nisar Memon, Abdul Hameed Chappra, Sabihuddin Ghausi, Khurshed Abbasi, Najeeb Ahmad and others said that Mushtaq Memon was an idealist and never compromised on principles.

They said he was a man of strong convictions and remained committed to his ideas. He was a person of calibre and integrity and never succumbed to any incentives or pressures.

He was strong supporter of democracy and always remained in the forefront in every struggle for democracy, and was also a supporter of the rights of the workers. He always spoke truth and was sent to jail while being in the forefront in a journalists’ struggle for rights launched in early 1970s.

They said Mr Memon was not a hypocrite and he always openly expressed his thoughts and supported and opposed openly without any fear or favour. While Fateha was offered for the late journalist, it was also decided that a room in the press club would be dedicated to his name.
