SIALKOT, Oct 13: Hundreds of girls could not get admission to third year in the Government Girls Degree College, Pasrur, as the Punjab University did not raise the number of seats despite repeated appeals.
Pasrur tehsil nazim Maqsood Ahmad said here on Friday that it was a great injustice to the local girls.
He appealed to Chief Minster Pervaiz Elahi to look into the matter and take steps to enhance the number of the seats in degree classes.
At present, there are 70 seats in the college and the people have demanded that the number should be increased to 200.
Mr Ahmad appealed to the government to start MA and MSc classes in the college.
Drinking water: The Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) has failed to take a step for provision of clean drinking water to the people several months after the environment, health and public health engineering departments declared it contaminated.
The departments took water samples from different parts of the city and laboratory test confirmed that it was unfit for human consumption.
They said the major cause of water contamination was mixing of sewerage water in clean water due to rusted or broken supply lines.
The departments had suggested the TMA to install water filtration plants. They asked the TMA to make fresh bores to the depth of 600 feet to get clean water.
Residents of the city have been drinking dirty water as a result of which they have been suffering from stomach diseases and hepatitis.
When contacted, TMA officials said Rs35 million were required for changing the rusting and damaged pipelines.
RAIN: Dust storm followed by heavy rain on Friday morning brought chill to the weather.
The windstorm uprooted several hoardings and trees in Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur tehsils. However, no untoward incident was reported from any part of the district.
The local Met office forecast more rain in the district and in the catchments of Occupied Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.
