KARACHI, Oct 12: Shipping activity remained active at the port where two ships carrying containers and chemicals were allotted berths during the last 24 hours, said a PQA press release here on Thursday.

Berth occupancy was maintained at 70 per cent on Wednesday as compared to 80 per cent a day earlier.

A total of seven ships -- Bavaria Express, CSAV Ningbo, Aqua Star, Sargodha, Integrity-I, Southern Imperial and DD Master -- were occupying berths to load and offload containers, cement, rice, edible oil, chemicals and sugar.

A cargo volume of 44,306 tons comprising 21,227 tons imports and 23,079 tons exports inclusive of containerised cargo carried in 2,167 containers (TEUs) was handled.

Three ships, CSAV Ningbo, Southern Imperial and Integrity-I, sailed out to sea during the report period, KIA Waleed, Al-Maqwa, Advantage and Pioneer Spirit are currently at outer anchorage.

Two ships, Bayaria Express and Aqua Star, are expected to sail on Thursday, while KIA Waleed, Advantage and Maritania are expected to take berths on same day.

Pacific Jade with edible oil is due to arrive on Thursday, while MSC Eleonora, Moon Vazs and Waimea, with containers, sugar and edible oil, are due to arrive on Friday.
