Three teams in Ramazan basketball semis

KARACHI, Oct 10: Three teams including two outfits of Neighbourhood United – varsity and first division — and Bounce Club cruised into the semi-finals of the Neighbourhood United Ramazan basketball tournament at Arambagh floodlight court on Monday night.

Neighbourhood Varsity chalked up second successive victory when they humbled Pak Brothers Mirpurkhas 59-21 in the group ‘B’ match. The winners led 29-17 at half time.

Zain top scored with 16 points for the winners. He was followed by Hammad Khan (12). Kashan and Imran scored 7 and 5 respectively for the outstation team.

Bounce Club, comprising tall and athletically built players, overwhelmed upcoming Nishtar Club 69-40 to register second straight win and join Neighbourhood first division in the last four from pool ‘A’.The winners dominated the first two quarters to enjoy 48-22 lead at breather. They added 14-4 on resumption to enhance their lead. However, the last quarter belonged to youthful Nishtar Club who reduced the lead 14-9 but to no avail.

Owais and Meraz scored 12 points apiece for winners while Shabbar and Aftab shone for losers scoring 18 and 14 points.

On Sunday, Neighbourhood first division posted an impressive 70-52 victory over National Club.

Sameel (14), Raja (11), Salman (10) were the main scorers for winners. Ghulam and Atif contributed 14 and 10 for losing side.

In the second match, Pak Brothers got the better of Karachi Colts 32-31 in a nail-biting finish.

Imran Baloch emerged highest scorer for winners with 13 points to be followed by Sher Mohammad (8). Sajid and Zain scored eight points apiece for colts.
