MIRPURKHAS, Oct 9: The director-general of Agriculture Water Management, Agha Zafarullah Durrani, has directed officials to ensure that standard material is used in the lining of watercourses and to take legal action against people supplying substandard materials.

Presiding over a meeting to review the pace of work on the National Programme for Lining Watercourses (NPLW) in the district on Monday, Mr Durrani lauded the officials’ efforts for achieving last year’s target of lining 99 watercourses. This year’s target was 200 watercourses for the district, he added.

The officials should complete the survey and design work and keep close contact with the farmers to make the programme a success, he said.

The DCO said that the officials should keep assessing the progress on the programme by holding meetings after every fortnight. He said that he would himself check the quality of work by paying surprise visits to the under-construction watercourses.
