Pakistan to contest ECB claim for revenue loss
ISLAMABAD, Oct 4: The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has asked Pakistan to compensate it for the loss of revenues in the cancelled fourth Test at the Oval in August, a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) spokesman said on Wednesday.
The spokesman said the PCB would contest the claim. “The Ad-hoc committee has decided to contest the claim legally as the Pakistan board was not responsible for the Test not being completed,” he said.
An ECB spokesman said the board would not comment on the report.
“There has been communication between the boards but we are not in a position to divulge it,” he said.
The Oval Test was called off at tea on the fourth day after Pakistan refused to continue play in protest against the umpires' decision to change the ball and penalise them five runs for alleged ball-tampering.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) later cleared Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq of ball-tampering charges but banned him for four matches for bringing the game into disrepute. Inzamam will miss the Champions Trophy in India this month.
The PCB spokesman declined to give the amount the ECB had requested.
The ad-hoc committee also confirmed Inzamam as captain for the home series against West Indies from Nov 7.—Reuters
