LAHORE, Oct 3: The Council of Complaints of the Punjab chapter of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority on Tuesday slapped fines on cable operators for showing proscribed channels and violating the limit of in-house ones.

A warning was also issued to FM radio stations for passing personal and derogatory remarks against individuals in the talk shows and news programmes.

Lahore district naib nazim Idrees Haneef, also a member of the Punjab council of the authority, presided over the meeting at the Pemra regional office that told the cable operators to abide by the rules and regulations of the authority.

The FM radio stations were asked to follow the terms and conditions of the licence.

Public complaints against the cable operators, FM radio stations and satellite TVs of Punjab were heard at the meeting in the presence of the complainants and the defendants.
