Delay in crushing to affect farmers

By Our Correspondent

KHAIRPUR, Oct 3: The leaders of the Abadgars Action Committee (AAC) and the Abadgar Ittehad (AI) expressed fear on Tuesday that sugar mills’ dilly-dallying on the issue of crushing would badly affect farmers in the district.

The AAC District President Ghulam Qasim Jiskani and AI District President Shakir Shah told reporters that the sugarcane crop was ready for harvesting and was enough to meet the needs of Khairpur and Ranipur Sugar Mills.

If sugarcane harvesting started in October it would be easier for them to start wheat cultivation from in November, they said adding that the delay in harvesting would also delay wheat cultivation.

They said that the government’s announcements about sugarcane crushing and prices had been disobeyed in the past and the same was being done this year.
