GUJRANWALA, Sept 29: A couple was killed in a grenade attack while their dog sacrificed his life and saved the lives of his master’s children by catching in his mouth another grenade hurled by their rivals in Mansoorwali village, Wazirabad.

Muhammad Sharif and his wife Bashiran Bibi were busy in sehri arrangements in the compound of their house when five proclaimed offenders threw two hand grenades from the roof of a nearby school. As a result, the couple died on the spot. Later, couple’s rivals hurled another grenade on the rooftop of the house where their daughter Fauzia and grandson Mohsin were asleep. The dog, already watching the assailants from there, when saw something coming towards him tried to get hold of it in his mouth which went off, killing him instantly. This act of dog’s gallantry saved the lives of the two children who were asleep nearby.

Before fleeing, the assailants also resorted to aerial firing to create harassment in the village.

It was learnt that Malangi, the son of deceased Sharif, had killed five people over an old enmity some few years ago. Later, the rivals also killed Malangi.

Ahmad Nager police have registered a case against the accused and are investigating.

INSTALLMENT: The Punjab government has released the first installment of Rs110 million for the construction of buildings of new schools and colleges.

A source said here on Friday that the building department had been given direction to start the construction work on these educational institutions immediately.

He said the government also sought a report on rundown buildings of educational institutions beside a proposal on new buildings under the Chief Minister’s Parha Likha Punjab programme.

While the district government sent the report to the Punjab government after a detailed survey that some 22 buildings of state-run schools/colleges were in dilapidated condition.

It is stated that the construction work of these educational institutions was delayed due to contractors of the Buildings department while the government has decided that the contract for the next phase would be given to the National Logistic Cell (NLC).

ELECTROCUTED: A 10-year-old boy was electrocuted in Kamoki on Friday.

Reports said that Ehsanullah was taking a bath when he touched the spout which was electrified. He received a severe shock and died on the spot.
