LAHORE, Sept 25: Wapda said on Monday that it had restored power supply to all parts of the country, including Karachi. A meeting at the Wapda House reviewed the situation following Sunday’s major breakdown. It was presided over by Wapda chairman Tariq Hamid.
Member (power) Anwer Khalid told the meeting that 11,600 megawatt of power was available in the system against a demand of 10,140MW on Monday.
He said that electricity could not be restored immediately on Sunday because hasty action could have damaged the transmission system.
On behalf of the authority, the chairman once again apologised for the inconvenience caused to consumers and praised them for their patience and cooperation.
Meanwhile, a four-member inquiry committee set up under the instructions of Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz to look into the causes of the breakdown started its proceedings here on Monday.
Headed by Chaudhry Ghulam Rasool, former member (power), the committee heard some senior officials at the Wapda House and set off to the site of the actual breakdown and later to Islamabad for checking Wapda Power Centre’s record at the time of occurrence.
The committee is supposed to (a) identify the reasons which led to the Sunday shutdown (b) suggest remedial measures to avoid such breakdowns in future and (c) lay down Standard Operating Procedure for future guidance.
