Jaudat claims amateur title

KARACHI, Sept 23: Jaudat Hashmi carded three over par 75 to win the amateur (gross) title in the two-day Motorola Golf Tournament which concluded at Karachi Golf Club on Saturday.

Playing under scorching heat, Hashmi, a four handicapper and long hitter, played even better than his handicap to reign supreme.

Humayun Karamat played a round of five over par 77 to finish runners up.

Asad I. A. Khan, secretary, Sindh Golf Association (SGA), fired three birdies on first five holes to finish with six over par 78. He was one of the title contenders at the end of front nine but could not maintain the pace on the back nine.

Wing Cdr Feroze Akbar logged 69 to annex amateur (net) crown. He was followed by promising Mubariz Ahmed with 68. The latter had captured the juniors (gross) title the other day.

Sohaib Naqvi was declared veteran’s net winner.

Sohail K. Rana had to be content with second slot in seniors (gross) but won the ‘longest drive’ award in amateurs category while ‘closest to the pin’ went to Sultan Farooq Khan.

Ali Hai, Shazli Azher, Irfan Rasheed and a few other known golfers could not compete in the tournament as they have gone to Lahore to feature in Royal Palm tourney.

Results: (Amateur)

Winner (gross): 75 – Jaudat Hashmi

Runners up (gross): 77 – Humayun Karamat

Winner (net): 68 - W. Cdr Feroze Akbar

Runners up (net): 69 - Mubariz Ahmed.
