LAHORE, Sept 23: The City District Government Lahore claims that flour and ghee millers as well as retailers have agreed to cut their profit on the sale of essentials during Ramazan.
After a meeting with representatives of industrialists and traders here on Saturday, Mian Amer Mahmood said the Flour Mills Association’s team, led by Bilal Aslam Sufi, had promised adequate supply of atta during the month besides announcing a reduction of Rs10 in the price of each flour bag to be sold at sale points designated by the CDGL in Sunday and Ramazan bazaars.
Ghee makers also announced setting up of their stalls at these bazaars and selling cooking oil and ghee at a price five per cent lower than the open market’s.
Rao Akram, the Lahore Kiryana Merchants Association president, also said minimum profit would be taken on the sale of essential items during Ramazan.
Fourteen Sunday bazaars are already functioning in the city while town administrations will set up 13 special Ramazan bazaars, besides 129 fair-price shops.
Essentials will be available at prices fixed by the district government, Mian Amer said.
He said the manufacturers of food items had been requested to establish their stalls in these bazaars for selling their products at ex-mill rates.
The district nazim further said for receiving public complaints regarding price hike and overcharging, a control room had been established in the office of district officer (revenue) with telephone No 9210633.
DCO Muhammad Ijaz, Gulberg Town nazim Faraz Chaudhry and officials concerned were also present.
Meanwhile, food grain wholesalers and retailers will reduce the prices of Moong and Maash pulses by Rs2 to Rs7 a kilogram during Ramazan.
According to an agreement reached between the representatives of wholesalers and retailers during a meeting of the District Price Control Committee, the retail price of Maash will be reduced by Rs2 a kilogram, unwashed Moong by Rs2 to Rs6 and washed Moong by Rs2 to Rs7.
MINISTER: Punjab Agriculture Marketing Minister Rana Qasim Noon has directed the market committees to step up vigilance to ensure availability of essential foodstuffs at fair prices.
Presiding over a meeting to review arrangements for ensuring availability of fruits, vegetables and other eatables in the province, the minister said the prices of kitchen items should be regularly monitored and the price lists issued by 6am.
TENTS: Rows of tents have been put up by the administrations of two towns to house fair-price markets during Ramazan.
The Data Ganj Bakhsh Town has set up two while the Samanabad Town one Sasta Ramazan bazaars in their jurisdiction to provide essential items to consumers at subsidised rates.
