Pakistan to brief ICC members on Oval Test fiasco
KARACHI, Sept 15: Pakistan will put across its views on the Oval Test fiasco as well as the umpiring panel for the Champions Trophy in a briefing to the ICC members at the meeting of the chief executives of Test playing nations in Dubai next week.
The CEO's meeting is scheduled on September 24 and 25 ahead of the ICC code of conduct hearing in London on the September 27 and 28 in which Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq faces charges of ball tampering and bringing the game into disrepute.
Pakistan would try to make it clear to the ICC and member nations why it has challenged the ball tampering charge brought by umpires Darrell Hair and Billy Doctrove, a senior PCB official said on Friday.
“It will be an important meeting ahead of the hearing for which we are making extensive preparations,” the Board's Director Cricket Operations Saleem Altaf said.
Another board official made it clear that Pakistan would be checking up with the ICC regarding the appointment of the umpires panel for the Champions Trophy being held in India from October 7.
The ICC has not yet announced the panel and indications are that it is mulling over the letter sent to it by PCB in which it has made it clear that Darrell Hair should not be appointed for the tournament billed as a mini World Cup.
The ICC had not yet sent any official response to the reservations laid down by Pakistan. “We will check with them because we feel this is a sensitive issue and has to be handled carefully. We have made our position very clear to the ICC on the umpiring panel,” he added.—Agencies
