Senior PML leaders criticise Shujaat

Published September 15, 2006

ISLAMABAD, Sept 14: Some senior leaders of the ruling PML have expressed resentment over what they termed the party’s president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and general secretary Mushahid Hussain’s attitude and said that they had not taken the party into confidence on important issues, including Nawab Bugti’s killing.

This was stated in a meeting of the leaders which was held at the residence of senior vice-president Maj-Gen (retd) Abdul Majeed Malik on Thursday. The meeting was attended by former prime minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali, former foreign minister Gauhar Ayub Khan, state minister Naseer Mengal, PML’s vice-president Begum Yaqoot Jamilur Rehman, Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo, Hamid Nasir Chathha and vice-president Kabir Ali Wasti. They said they would continue to support policies of the president.

The leaders expressed concern that they were not even told what stance was to be taken on the Balochistan issue, the killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti or the military operation. They said that an impression was given to the president that certain people within the party were opposed to the president and the military operation in Balochistan while top PML leaders were backing these steps.—Online
