KARACHI: More schools qualify for Spelling Bee city finals

KARACHI, Sept 13: Another six schools qualified for the Karachi city finals of the third “Dawn in Education --National Spelling Bee” competition on Tuesday. The competition, being participated by teams of students from the schools located in the Karachi region, is under way at the Bahria Auditorium. It has been organized in collaboration with the British Council.

Pronouncers of the Tuesday contests were Sue Gilbert, Sadia Butt and Judy Khan, whereas judges for the contests among three different age groups were Lenny Menezes, Shaheen Arif, Saad Hilal, Saima Zia, Nabeel Alvi and Azhar Rafi.

Following are the winning teams of the Tuesday contests:

9-11 age group: M. Faizan Alam, Naima Aslam and Manahal of the Jaffer Public School, PECHS, and Mariam Sohail, Saad Choudary and Daniyal Islam of the Froebels Education Centre. 12-14 age group: Ahmad Javed and Arsalan Aziz of the Citizens Public Secondary Schools (Boys) and Syeda Amna Nusrat, Uroosa Butt and Daniyal Ahmed of the Karachi Public School.

15-17 age group: Rohama Saeed, Sheema Aslam and Mahmil Mukhtar of the City Cliff School and Asfar Shakir, Zainab Haroon and Rabia Saleem of the Playhouse Secondary School.
