‘KRC guide need to come out early’

Published September 10, 2006

KARACHI, Sept 9: The racing fraternity has demanded of the Karachi Race Club (KRC) to make the KRC guide book for the weekly Sunday races available at book stalls by Friday night, aimed at giving them sufficient time to study form of horses.

According to them the book now comes at the selected shops on Saturday night thus depriving them enough opportunity to go through it minutely. Some race-goers even buy it just before the races on Sunday and can’t make a fair decision. They are left at the mercy of book-makers and in the end return in disgust.

They said earlier the handicaps used to come out on Thursday and scratching/acceptance which requires an hour used to take place next morning. The punters get the book by Friday evening.

With Friday being the weekly holiday at KRC, the scratching/acceptance now takes place on Saturday morning and the book comes out at night.

They proposed that KRC should depute three to four members of concerned staff for conducting scratching/acceptance on Friday morning for an hour in order to meet their demand and to overcome the shortcomings.

The Dawn correspondent also finds it difficult to write curtain-raiser and meet the newspaper deadline without the latest guide book. This inconvenience to public needs immediate attention of the high ups. — A. Z.
