QUETTA, Sept 3: The Anjuman Ittehad Marri (AIM) has said that security forces have launched another operation in different areas of Kohlu district and many people have been killed.
An AIM spokesman said here on Sunday that the security forces were using helicopter gunships and fighter jets against militants who were offering strong resistance.
He said that helicopter gunships had pounded Tartani, Bhamboor, Surian Kor and other areas of Kohlu district, killing at least 18 people, including women and children.
He claimed that 70 families comprising 350 people were missing.
The spokesman further said that law-enforcement agencies had recently arrested over 20 people from the New Kahan area near Quetta.
He said that after the killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti, more troops and heavy weapons had arrived in Kohlu district.
He welcomed the decision of the Balochistan National Party (Mengal) about resignation of its lawmakers and said that they had proved that they were sons of Balochistan.
At the same time, he deplored the silence of the BNP (Awami) over the killing of Nawab Bugti.
He called on the people of Balochistan to adopt ‘the path of Nawab Bugti’ for achieving their goal.
grenade attack: Meanwhile, six people were injured in a hand grenade attack on the Jail Road in Quetta on Sunday. A main gas pipeline was blown up in Mastung district’s Dashat area, 60km off Quetta.
According to police sources, the grenade was hurled on a road near Rahim Colony by some people riding a motorcycle.
The injured, Hafiz Bahadur Khan Lango, Jehanzeb Mengal, Waqar Ahmad, Zarar Ahmad, Naseer Ahmad and Syed Asad Shah, were taken to the civil hospital.
The pipeline blast occurred in the morning, suspending gas supply to many areas in Kalat and Mastung district.
Fire in the pipeline was controlled by disconnecting gas supply in the pipeline.
Police sources said explosive material had been placed under the pipeline near a village. “A large portion of the 18-inch-diameter pipeline was damaged in the explosion,” police said.
Police and staff of the Sui Southern Gas Company reached the site after the blast. The SSGC staff started replacing the damaged pipeline.
Officials hoped gas supply to Kalat and Mastung districts would be restored by Monday morning.
Meanwhile, the Frontier Corps, on information, seized 195kg of explosives dumped at a place in the Zhob area.
FC sources claimed that the explosives had been brought from Afghanistan for subversive activities in Balochistan.
