KARACHI, Sept 3: Sindh minister for labour Mohammed Adil Siddiqi has issued directives to concerned provincial organizations for effective implementation of minimum wages as announced by the federal government.

The minister's directives were communicated to the Minimum Wages Board Sindh and the Directorate of Labour Sindh for effective implementation of minimum wages for unskilled labourers working in all the industrial and commercial concerns under Federal Finance Act 2006.The Sindh Minimum Wages Board has sent letters to all the Chambers of Commerce and Industry asking them to make it binding for their member industrial and commercial ventures to strictly enforce the implementation of minimum wages which have been increased from Rs3000 to Rs4000 per month and enforcement of which has become effective from July 1.

The announcement said defiant employers would not only have to pay salaries but fine also.

Meanwhile, Adil Siddiqi has directed the Sindh Worker's Welfare Board to ensure implementation of enhanced grant for wedding of worker's daughters, educational stipends for their children and special assistance in case of death of a worker.

The minister said that the government is implementing other development schemes for welfare of workers.—APP
