PESHAWAR, Aug 30: The NWFP Governor Ali Mohammad Jan Aurakzai has served a show-cause notice on Vice-Chancellor of Peshawar University for appointing a junior officer on a post meant for a senior officer.

The notice asked the vice-chancellor to explain why a deputy registrar in BPS-18 was given double promotion to become registrar in BPS-20.

Sources said that Governor Aurakzai, who is also chancellor of the university, was convinced that deputy registrar Sher Bahadur, working in BPS-18 did not qualify for the post of the registrar in accordance with the provision of the University of Peshawar Act, 1974.

The issue surfaced after the university syndicate in its meeting held on June 17 and June 26 approved the appointment of the deputy registrar for the post of registrar, despite the fact that senior members of the syndicate opposed it.

The chancellor served the notice on Aug 18 and directed the vice-chancellor to give a reply within 15 days.
