MUZAFFARABAD, Aug 25: In the second ceasefire violation along the Line of Control in Kashmir this month, a Kashmiri woman was injured by an Indian sniper on Friday, an army official said here.
The official from the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), who declined to be named, said that the violation took place in Nakyal sub-sector of Azad Jammu Kashmir’s southern Kotli district at about 12:45 pm without any provocation.
“The 40-year-old woman, Shamim Akhtar, was cutting fodder some 300 yards short of the LoC in Balakot village when she was hit in the head by a sniper shot,” he said.
The victim was initially admitted to district headquarter hospital Kotli where her condition was however stated to be out of danger, he added.
On Aug 15, Pakistan had accused the Indian troops of committing a clear violation of ceasefire by resorting to machinegun fire from across the LoC which had injured two brothers near Taroti village of Abbaspur sector in the southern Poonch district.
India, however, had rejected the allegation saying no such incident had occurred.
The ISPR official said Islamabad would protest with the United Nations military observers over the second ceasefire violation, like it had done the last time.
