By Our Correspondent

KHAIRPUR, Aug 20: More than 40 children and 10 men and women suffering from gastroenteritis were admitted to hospitals in Khairpur city, Setharja and its adjoining areas on Sunday.

About 30 patients, including men, women and children, were taken to civil, city and private hospitals in Khairpur.

Some of them were identified as Kamlesh, Rab Nawaz, Dhani Partio, Abdul Rauf, Ghulamullah, Rasool Bux, Abdul Qadir, Tasleema, Din Mohammad, Fiza, Haleema and Sara.

More than 20 children were admitted to hospitals in Setharja.

Our Nawabshah Correspondent adds: Consumption of contaminated water following recent rains has caused an outbreak of gastroenteritis in different parts of the district.

About 37 patients including children have been admitted to hospitals.

Out of the total, 20 children in serious condition were admitted to the paediatrics ward of the People’s Medical College Hospital.

Dr Jalal at the paediatrics ward said that they were administering drips and giving antibiotics to serious patients and ORS to those with mild symptoms.

The patients included Ramzan, Kainat, Zohra, Sana, Saira, Ashraf, Mohammad Roshan, Shabina and Razia.

Assistant Prof Dr Saleem Faiz said that the main cause of the disease was the use of contaminated water and advised people to drink boiled water and keep their food covered.

People of affected areas demanded that the district health authorities launch an anti-fly spray campaign in the city to check the disease’s spread.
