HYDERABAD, Aug 18: The director-general of the Sindh health services, Dr Hadi Bux Jatoi, has said that 504 fixed and 101 mobile camps with 609 doctors and ample supplies of medicines have been set up in the province to check the spread of rain-related diseases.

Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, he said that the department had made required arrangements in the province and chalked out a district-wise action plan to combat the situation.

A control room which was working round the clock had been set up at his office to monitor the situation and all EDOs had also directed to set up similar control rooms in their offices and medical camps for rain and flood affected people, he said.

He said that vigilance teams were monitoring and supervising relief activities and providing medical help.

The emergency centres were receiving reports about gastroenteritis, malaria, snake-bite, skin diseases, conjunctivitis and respiratory diseases but the department had already made available all the life saving drugs as well as chlorine tablets supplied by Unicef.

A total of 170 cases of snake-bite were reported between August 6 and 17, but there was no report of any death because the medical camps had ample supplies of ARV and ASV vaccines, he said.

He said that a total of 24,446 patients had so far received treatment at the camps and there was no report of any death.
