PESHAWAR, Aug 10: The provincial education authorities are likely to ask the chief minister for transfer of decision making power to the department to improve its performance, it is learnt.
At present, the power to make decisions regarding appointment, suspension and transfer of senior officials and other important issues rest with the chief minister and chief secretary.
“The cases of appointment, transfer and promotion take a long time to reach the chief minister and chief secretary, causing delay and wastage of time. It also slows down the working of the department,” said an official.
The source said that the education department wanted these powers to improve its performance and a summary would soon be sent to the chief minister in this regard.
There are over 500 seats of headmaster lying vacant and the recruitment process could be expedited if these powers were transferred to the department from the chief minister and chief secretary, the source said.
