LANDI KOTAL, Aug 6: Tribesmen belonging to Jamrud tehsil of the Khyber Agency staged a protest demonstration on Sunday against the non-construction of gates on a wall that separates Hayatabad Township from the tribal area.

Senator Hamidullah Khan, MNA Khalilur Rehman and President of Awami National Party Malik Imran Afridi led the demonstrators, who warned the city district government to settle the issue by August 9. Otherwise, they said, tribesmen would demolish the wall.

The protesters also demolished a portion of the wall.

The district government had started construction of the safety wall to stop entry of tribesmen in Hayatabad in the wake of growing incidents of kidnapping and robberies in the township.

Tribesmen had agreed to the construction of wall, but asked the authorities to construct gates to provide access to those living adjacent to Hayatabad Township.
