ISLAMABAD, Aug 3: The Election Commission on Thursday directed the members of parliament and the provincial assemblies to submit yearly statements of assets and liabilities of themselves, their spouses and dependents by Sept 30.
Election Commission Secretary Kanwar Mohammad Dilshad announced: “This is a mandatory requirement under Section 42A of the Representation of the People Act, 1976, and Section 25A of the Senate (Election) Act, 1975.”
The statements of assets and liabilities will be published in the official gazette.
The chief election commissioner shall notify the names of the members who fail to file the statements on Oct 15 and any defaulting member will cease to function till such a statement is submitted.
If any member submitted false particulars, he could be proceeded against under Section 82 for corrupt practices, Mr Dilshad said.
The prescribed forms were available from the EC secretariat in Islamabad and provincial offices of the commission, he said. Forms were also being sent to the Senate, National Assembly and provincial assemblies’ secretariats, he said.
