Two women throw down the gauntlet

By Khurshid Anwar Khan

MIANWALI, Aug 3: Two women of a family made a rare display of valour by inflicting injuries upon a member of their rival family and, more so, by breaking away with the tradition of being living under the veil of oppression and discrimination in this male-chauvinistic part of the province.

The Kalabagh police had registered a case the other day against the women who axed and injured another woman at Banni Afghana village, about 40 kilometres from here.

Reports reaching here said an old enmity goaded Marjan Begum and Yasmin on to inflict injuries on Mst Ghanjera, wife of Muhammad Khan. Both of them remained in hunt to teach the woman a lesson.

Finding Mst Ghanjera alone shepherding her cattle on Bani Afghana hilltops, both women attacked her with axe and dagger and injured her seriously. The injured woman was taken to Kalabagh hospital with serious wounds. She is fighting for life in hospital.
