PESHAWAR: Forward bloc demands control of PML office

By Our Correspondent

PESHAWAR, Aug 3: The newly-elected President PML NWFP, Ulas Khan Khalil, who belongs to the forward bloc, has urged Federal Minister for Political Affairs Amir Muqam to hand over the control of party office to him immediately or he would take control of the office by force.

“After winning election, I am the provincial president, constitutionally,” said Khalil while talking to newsmen at Peshawar Press Club on Thursday.

He said Amir Muqam “is now an outsider” as he failed to gain confidence of senior leaguers.

He said since 430 members of the party’s provincial executive council voted for him in the recent elections for provincial president, “it shows that all diehard leaguers are with me.”

Calling Amir Muqam “the former provincial chief”, Khalil said he was responsible for creating misunderstandings among party workers and weakening the party at provincial level.

He said he would continue to support President Musharraf’s policies.

Without disclosing the name, he claimed that he had the support of a federal minister. Besides, he added, a number of senior leaguers were in contact with him.

He denied having been in contact with Federal Minister Salim Saifullah Khan. Soon a meeting of the party would be called to appoint four senior vice-presidents, he added.

Zakria Khan asked the government to arrest Amir Muqam “who is wanted by police in a case registered against him about a month back.”
