Speaking at a meeting of the committee held here on Wednesday, district and sessions judge Mazher Husain Minhas criticised the police for implicating innocent people in criminal cases and humiliating them at police stations.

He said the police had failed to implement court orders and interfered in civil cases following helping land grabbers. As a result of which, he said, the law and order situation was deteriorating and criminal cases were pending with courts for want of police investigation.

He also criticised the jail authorities for not providing better facilities to prisoners in accordance with the jail manual and the Supreme Court’s directives.

DPO Mian Muhammad Asif assured the meeting that the police system was being revamped and inefficient and corrupt officials were being taken to task.

The investigation SP, jail superintendent, district attorney and other senior officers were also present in the meeting.
