Nine killed in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Aug 1: Five security personnel and four militants have been killed in a fresh surge of violence that saw shooting at a popular tourist spot in occupied Kashmir, police said on Tuesday.

Two policemen were killed and a civilian was injured when militants opened fire in the Dalgate area of Srinagar on Tuesday morning, a police spokesman said. Hours later militants killed two paramilitary men Kakasarai area of Srinagar, police said. In other violence, four militants and a policeman were killed late on Monday in three separate gunbattles in Poonch and Pulwama districts.—AFP
