KARACHI, July 29: Three-year-old bay colt The Conqueror’s is fancied to make amends of last outing’s loss should he rule the field in the Summer Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

The Conqueror’s sprinted to two lengths victory over filly Black Girl on April 16 but the latter avenged her defeat, edging out the former by two and a half lengths when the two fielded together on April 30.

He is likely to be chased by Mera Jugnoo and Lucky Friend in the five furlongs race having a strong field of 18 runners. Unimpressive so far, Trust Again can pull off an upset if tried by the connections.

A card of seven races has been drawn for the day with six going over a sprinting distance of five furlongs and one to six furlong.

The first race begins at 2.00pm.

Mare Piyari Mehbooba is back in contention after a layoff and poised to oblige punters by galloping to victory in the opener. Earlier she had four successive dismal runs, finishing off the board.

However, she should prove her mettle by overcoming the challenge from Yanga, Raaz and even Fizza.

The latter romped home by two lengths in last Sunday’s meeting.

Four horses are in fray for honours in the next race. They are Tom Cruise, Lucky Luck, Tun Baba Tun and Chand Aya. On form Tom Cruise looks certain to pick up spoils while horse to be watched is Chand Aya.

Five-year-old bay mare Silent Love is poised to make amends and present its owner with a winner.

He should be followed by Juliat and Sweet Grandy. However, Jack In The Box may upset the applecart.

The fourth race should see filly Queen Of Mirwa making it two in a row.

She posted a facile seven lengths victory in the last outing on July 9. She is likely to be followed by Daruwala and Champions Express.

Drawn alongside 10 competitors, three-year-old chestnut colt Reyan King should land the sixth race while five-year-old bay colt Sea Wave should dominate the concluding event to make it two on trot.

Following is the field and our selection.
