Six dead as rain lashes Lahore

By Our Staff Reporter

LAHORE, July 25: Six people, including an infant and a special person, died and over a dozen others were injured when heavy rain lashed the Punjab capital on Tuesday. Most of the deaths were caused due to the collapse of rundown buildings and structures. The 94mm rain badly affected the city life.

Nasir Ali, 28, and Muhammad Shameer, 27, died when the roof of the shoe factory in Baghbanpura where they would work caved in. Another worker sustained serious injuries but was stated to be stable at the hospital.

One-year-old Amina and 22-year-old Shabbir were buried alive under the debris when the roof of their house in Ghaziabad caved in.

Shahid Akhtar, 19, drowned in the basement of a school for the disabled in Tajpura. The school was submerged during the rain.

Teenaged Ehsan Ali of Mughalpura lost his life when a concrete shed fell upon him.

There were reports of injuries to over a dozen people in eight other similar incidents.
