9.5kg heroin seized

RAWALPINDI, July 18: The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) foiled two separate attempts to smuggle 9.5 kg of heroin abroad and arrested two persons on Tuesday, the authorities said.

The authorities said on a tip-off, raiding team spotted a vehicle (Peshawar-j 7041) at the gate of Shaheen Cargo Islamabad International Airport carrying a consignment which was to be booked for the UK.

When the ANF staff uncovered three airconditioners of a private company, they recovered 6.5 kg of heroin concealed in the compressors of the airconditioners.

The carrier of the consignment was booked by Tanveer Gul of Peshawar, who had been taken into custody by the raiding party.

In another raid, the ANF staff arrested Adnan Kiyani holding passport no KB-502799 during the check-in of passengers of PK-761 for Germany.

During search, the ANF staff recovered 3 kg of heroin from the cavities of his suitcase.

Meanwhile, the customs staff at International Mail Office Chaklala foiled an attempt of smuggling of heroin to UK through parcels and recovered 1 kg of narcotics. The parcels were booked by Ijaz Hussain.—Staff Reporter
