BAHAWALPUR, July 14: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal took out a rally and held a protest demonstration against lawlessness, price hike, electricity shortage, privatisation of profitable units and Israel’s strikes against Palestine here on Friday.

The rally started from Al-Sadiq Masjid after Juma prayers. The participants were holding placards inscribed with slogans against the government. They marched up to Chowk Bazaar, where they staged silent demonstration for about one hour.

MMA deputy parliamentary leader in the Punjab Assembly and Punjab Jamaat-i-Islami naib amir Dr Syed Wasim Akhtar, accompanied by local leaders of the MMA component parties, led the demonstration. Later, talking to reporters, he lamented government’s attitude toward Palestine whose elected leaders were being abducted by Israel.

He criticised the military rule “which had made the life of common man miserable.” He said the MMA would continue agitation till the end of the Musharraf rule.
