LAHORE, July 10: DIG Operations Lahore Amir Zulfiqar Khan said on Monday that the policemen were not authorised to kill anybody at the picket. He said this while addressing a press conference at the District Police Lines.

He said that police were picketing to control street crime and if policemen signalled motorcyclists to stop for checking, they should stop there.

We will take strict action against those officials who are found involved in harassing anyone at a picket, he added. He appealed to the people to cooperate with the police.

Answering a question, he said that police had arrested the constable of Elite Force and registered a murder case against him.

The DIG said that the police had smashed 8 criminal gangs and arrested their 29 members involved in snatching cash, purse, car and motorcycle besides mobile phones in different areas of the city.

STUDENT BURIED: Salman, who was killed by the police on Wahdat Road here on Sunday, was laid to rest at Gopal Nagar Naseerabad graveyard here on Monday.

A large number of people from different walks of life attended his funeral.

ARRESTED: The police have arrested 667 criminals, including 385 proclaimed offenders, during a general hold-up across the province.

The police also recovered a huge quantity of illegal weapons, stolen cattleheads, motorcycles and cars from them.

According to a police spokesman, the general hold-up criminals was being conducted on the order of the IGP.

Giving details, he said that police recovered 70 cattleheads, two cars and 25 motorocycles besides arresting 31 cattle thieves.

The spokesman said that 996 weapons, including five klashnikoves, 39 rifles, 290 guns/carbines and 654 revolvers/pistols, were recovered.
