KARACHI, July 3: Bandits took away at least 45 cell phones and 26 vehicles in various city areas on Monday. According to the police, at least 15 mobile phones were snatched at gunpoint while 27 were stolen while three others were reported as missing on Monday.
Out of 10 cars, two were snatched at gunpoint by bandits while eight were stolen.
Nine motorcycles were taken away by bandits at gunpoint while theft of seven motorcycles was reported, police sources said.
Meanwhile, Sindh Home Minister Rauf Siddiqui has asked the mobile companies to get installed the equipment identity register (EIR) devices so that the snatched mobile sets could be made inoperative immediately, adds APP.
He was presiding over a meeting in his office here on Monday, says a statement.
Matters pertaining to the cases of snatching of mobile telephones and street crimes came up for discussion at the meeting.
Rauf Siddiqui said the combination of illegal weapons and illegal SIMs contribute to increasing crimes.
