One CNIC 49 cellphone connections

By Munawer Azeem

ISLAMABAD, June 29: A man lodged a complaint with local police that a franchise mobile company had issued mobile numbers against his CNIC and particulars to different people. Muddasir Rizvi, a resident of G-10, lodged a complaint with the Kohsar police stating that a franchise company located at Jinnah Supper market issued 49 mobile numbers to different people against his CNIC and particulars.

However, the Kohsar police did not register case against the franchise company.

Mr Rizvi in his complaint said that an employee of the company called him last Saturday and said that they had received a complaint about a number that was being used to make obnoxious calls and send messages, and the number was issued against his CNIC.

Since the number was not in his use, he decided to go to the mobile company office and investigate the matter.

The staff on duty informed him that there were 49 numbers that had been issued against his NIC all from one franchise company located in Jinnah Super Market.

They took an application for blocking all the numbers issued against his name. But the numbers had not been blocked as yet, he said adding as he received another similar call from the company.

He then approached Kohsar police and submitted a written application against the company. However, the police did not register the case saying they would first investigate the matter and then lodge FIR.

A senior official of the mobile company on a condition of anonymity told Dawn that the company had received a number of complaints about issuing of numbers on fake documents, and said they were investigating the matter.

“We are investigating the matter and after that we would take action against the company, which includes cancellation of licence,” the official said.
