ISLAMABAD, June 14: The Shalimar Club Open Tennis Championship is due to begin from June 25, organisers said on Wednesday.
According to chief organiser Saeedul Haq, the tournament which runs till July 2 will have men's singles/doubles, ladies singles, and juniors under-17 singles/doubles events.
There will also be competitions for boys' under-15 singles and for those in the under-13 age bracket. A seniors doubles plus 40 event will also be part of the tournament.
Saeed said that participants of a youth summer camp being currently organised by Asian Seniors champion Hameedul Haq at the Islamabad Tennis Complex (ITC), will also take part in the tournament.
The camp, the longest ever in Pakistan tennis history, began on May 21 and will conclude on August 15. Among the participants is national grass and claycourt under-13 champion Sadanul Haq.
Hameed said that the boys at the camp undergo training for seven hours five days a week which includes physical exercises, hiking, sprints, swimming and soccer.
Besides Hameed, coach Fazle Subhan is also imparting training to the players while Ikramul Haq and Kamran Khalil are looking after the physical side.
