Rana Naved in doubt for England tour

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, June 14: Pakistan face another setback Rana Navedul Hasan arrived home with a groin injury, which could rule him out of forthcoming England tour.

Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer told reporters on Wednesday that the medium-pacer could not join the training camp due to the injury he sustained during county cricket.

He said the seamer’s medical reports would be sent to foreign experts to diagnose the problem.

The case has already been handed over to the PCB medical commission, Woolmer said.

Rana Naved picked up the injury while playing for Sussex in the English County Championship earlier this month.

Interestingly the national selection committee, headed by Wasim Bari selected Rana Naved in the 16-member squad without confirming the nature of his injury from the English county side.

Rana Naved could miss the first part of the England tour starting from June 25 as he is likely to have six-week rest. Fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar is already out of reckoning for the Test series with an ankle problem.

Meanwhile, medium-pacers Samiullah Niazi and Rao Iftikhar remain in contention as Rana Naved’s likely replacement.
